Where to Retire?

Have you thought about retirement and where you plan to retire? If money were no object my dream retirement would be to keep our home here in Green Acres, and to also buy a small bungalow in Key West. We occasionally discuss this topic knowing we'll likely have to pick only one. What is your dream retirement?

  1. I plan to retire in Naples, FL. Very beautiful and reasonably priced with great facilities for old folks. They have one of the best joint replacement facilities in the nation...LOL, but seriously!

Great restaurants, great shops, great little museums, the arts and all in a sleepy little town.

People are nice there and tend to have higher degrees of education, which means they tend to be more accepting of diversity, also a plus.

The white powder beaches are pristine and it is a very ecologically aware community and they have balanced the building with the preservation of the environment...basically one of the few S. Florida spots that didn't over build.

Oh, and the streets are not that busy. It would be a great place to own a motorcycle.

J Although, the Key’s are terribly relaxing and beautiful. And, there are all those wonderful cats. J Tough decision. I’d vote for Green Acres because I like seasons. For us, if there were no constraints, Chris and I would retire to a little villa in Tuscany or a cottage near Dublin. In reality, we have a piece of real estate on Pawley’s Island, SC. It’s still marshland, but someday, we will have it cleared and build a house on stilts where you can walk out directly onto the beach. We also plan to be volunteers at Brookgreen Gardens there. If we decide we can’t deal with hurricane season, we can always retire to Cape Cod and be with the rest of the Chinetti’s. Chris will inherit his dad’s property some day. I’m hoping for the beach. J Too much drama in New England with all those Chinetti’s. haha.

  5. kcc, Just make sure we get an invite where ever you end up. Same invite is extended to you all. Keys or warm climate with less humidity is my ideal!!

  9. [Cox added] Well I figure, I dont have to shovel "hot" or "humid" and never nearly wrecked my car because of either, so I am not complaining!

Blanchard has just scored 100 on a stress management treatment test that will allow him to be certified to help folks with problems in that category. As you may know, I am working on a middle school text with Oscar. Come October, I'll go into rehearsal, playin(again) the General in 'White Christmas' for La Comedia. Around and about all this, we'll take a couple of days at Belterra Casino, trek to Blanchard's family reunion in Chattanooga (this year--it changes), and make a side trip to Anniston, Alabama, where he'll continue some family tree research. Then, in September, we'll cruise the Caribbean for seven nights and days with stops in Haiti, Grand Cayman, Jamaica, Cozumel, etc. Busy, busy--and blessed!
